Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi Divorce News: Deny Breakup Rumors; Missing Wedding Band Blamed On Horses

As the Oscars approach, this year's host Ellen DeGeneres finds herself desperately denying rumors that she and wife of 5-years Portia de Rossi are getting divorced. In full damage control mode, the talk show titan offered proof that Portia wasn't wearing her wedding band while in L.A., not over their impending breakup, but horses. No kidding.

The more it looks like Portia de Rossi is going to leave, the louder and more garish Ellen DeGeneres gets, as is her way.

And who can blame her; it's always worked in the past, secretly admits one of the couple's many friends (via Star):

"Ellen follows a cynical pattern: She is mean and controlling, then she sees that Portia is pulling away and sucks it up. She'll cry and tell Portia that she can't live without her, then spoil her with vacations, cars, and jewelry."

Ellen goes through all the familiar motions in her latest article in People, with a little wedding ring explanation twist, to keep it spicy:

"I love her so much it kills me.

"The tabloids had a photo of Portia not wearing her wedding ring. She goes, 'I didn't wear it because when I ride horses and I'm holding the reins, it gives me a blister!'

"The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do. She surprises me all the time... We're really lucky because we know how rare it is."

Ellen can try all she like but nothing is going to work this time; one insider swore to Star that Portia going to play it cool until Ellen is least expecting a break away move:

"She has a way of making Portia believe that she would never be anything without Ellen, and if they split, she'd be screwed...That's why Portia doesn't want Ellen to know that she's told friends she's thinking of leaving her."

Let's just hope Portia gets her opportunity to escape before it's too late.
