The cast and the crew of the CW series The Vampire Diaries suffered a horrible loss last week. Sarah Elizabeth Jones, a crew member on the show, was tragically killed after being struck by a train, while working on the set of the new biopic, Midnight Rider. Now the cast and crew of TVD are pushing for their friend and coworker to be remembered at the Academy awards. The crew has started a petition to have her added to the memorial.
Sarah Jones tragically lost her life last week while working on the set of Midnight Rider. Jones, a crew member on the hit CW series, The Vampire Diaries, may be gone, but she will not be forgotten.
TVD star Nina Dobrev tweeted about the tragic loss:
“Sarah Jones had the most beautiful spirit and a smile that lit up our set for years…”
Dobrev also urged her Twitter followers to sign a petition to have Jones added the Oscar memorial, writing:
“Pls sign+RT Petition for Sarah.”
The official petition reads:
“Sarah Elizabeth Jones was a West Columbia native who died last week while filming a movie in South Georgia.
“Only 27 years old, Sarah's promising life was cut short when she was struck by a train while working on a dangerous set. Crew members are the unsung heroes of film and television production who work long hours and sometimes very dangerous conditions for the love of filmmaking. Sarah Elizabeth Jones was one of us.
“We ask for Sarah Elizabeth Jones' love and passion for filmmaking be acknowledged on the grandest stage of all, The Academy Awards.”
Sarah was clearly loved and adored by all who knew her. She got her start on the crew of the Lifetime series, Army Wives.
We spoke with one of Jones’ fellow Army Wives coworkers, Caleb S. Varnadeaux, who told us about her glowing personality:
"I always thought she should've worked in the electric department, because she could light up a room just by walking in."
