Italian Giuseppe Verdi's work Aida will be making a debut at Manhattan's Metropolitan Opera House at the tail end of the year with performances from Nov. 23 to Dec. 28 and is a Sonja Frisell production.
This opera will have numerous actors playing one role which seems to be popular with directors at the Met and Sonja Frisell has followed suit by doing the same.
The starring role of "Aida," will be split between firstly Ukraine's soprano Liudmyla Monsatyrska and China's Hui He.
The role of "Amneris," is charged to Olga Borodina and Dolora Zajick while the role of "Radames," belong to both veteran Marco Berti and French tenor Alagna.
"Amonasro," will be conveyed by the baritone pairing of Alberto Mastromarino and George Gagnidze. Stefan Kocan the Slovak bass will feature throughout the Frisell production as "Ramfis," likewise Miklos Sebestyen as "The King." Another integral part of the play will be the music and Fabio Luisi will conduct during the running of the play.
"Aida's," behind the scenes crew consist of Gianni Quaranta as set designer, Dada Saligeri customer designer, Gil Wechsler as lighting designer and choreographer Alexei Ratmansky.
The history of this play dates back to 1870s and is attributed to Giuseppe Verdi. The play revolves around "Aida," an Ethiopian princess sold into to slavery and taken to Egypt. "Ramades," the commander of the Egyptian army falls for the Ethiopian royalty and has to make a choice between loyalty to the pharaoh or "Aida." At the same time "Ramades," is being pursued by the pharaoh's daughter "Amneris."
