Prostitutes Flock to Brazil for World Cup 2014, Learning English

With so many soccer fans heading to Brazil this year for the World Cup it only makes sense that entrepreneurs from all over the world would flock to the event as well. Among these entrepreneurs: prostitutes. Many are even learning English just for the trip, and began preparing almost eighteen months ago.

Since Brazil is known for legalized prostitution, and a large number of travelers expected to make the trip, sex workers from all over the world (except Canada, apparently) will be following suit, plying their trade to match the rising demand for company (via TMZ):

"With an estimated 600,000 international soccer fans traveling to Brazil for the games, the hookers know it's a HUGE opportunity to make some easy cash ... especially since prostitution is legal in Brazil.

"We spoke to sex workers from all over the USA who tell us they're excited for the trip -- ditto for a bunch of hookers we contacted in The Netherlands. "

TMZ also reported that a representative for Sex Workers of Canada said not to expect to see many Canadian working girls as costs will be prohibitive.

And this isn't a fly-by-night operation. Some groups, particularly local Brazilian prostitutes, have begun preparing since last January, including learning English and familiarizing themselves with customs and equipment they may not be familiar with (via Huffington Post):

"In Belo Horizonte, one of the 17 host cities for the event which is expected to draw about 600,000 international visitors, citizens working in one of the world's oldest professions are learning a very specialized kind of English.

"In preparation, the Minas Gerais State Association of Prostitutes in Belo Horizonte is offering free English classes to help the city's prostitutes make the most out of the onslaught of potential new clients."

Representatives say knowing English will help sex workers make sure to negotiate fair terms and prices.
