Two-Day 'Eric Dolphy: Freedom of Sound Festival' Happening at Montclair State University in New Jersey

To celebrate the life and accomplishments of jazz visionary Eric Dolphy, Seed Artists presents Eric Dolphy: Freedom of Sound, a major two-day festival at Montclair State University.

Dolphy, if you aren't aware, redefined jazz in the early '60s and today stands as a heavyweight among avant-garde figures. A master of alto sax, flute and bass clarinet, as both soloist and composer, Dolphy's work still resonates some 50 years after his death.

The event will take place on May 30-31 in Montclair, N.J.

Those who make it out to Jersey will hear unearthed Dolphy compositions that have never been performed or recorded. Among the performers for Freedom of Sound: Gunther Schuller, Richard Davis, James Newton, John Szwed and Michael E. Veal.

Tickets are $20 per day and can be purchased here. Further information can also be found on the fest's Facebook, Twitter or by calling (862) 621-9761.

[N.B. You can also support the event by contributing via IndieGoGo.]
