Jon Daly Lost $90 Million Gambling, Golf Star Asking For Help

The former bad boy of golf has not had a drink in six years. But he does still like to gamble. He recently admitted that over one fifteen year stretch he lost $90 million. He has reportedly stated he's asking for help- not for gambling though. He says he's got that under control. The golf star is instead seeking help with his golf swing.

Daly, who has got to be one of the most organized casual gamblers ever, apparently keeps meticulous records at the tables, even though he sported a net loss of $55 million over a fifteen year stretch. Yet he still regards it as a fun pastime (TMZ):

"Daly says he would keep a detailed record of all of his major gambling sprees -- and when he crunched the numbers, he almost couldn't believe how much cash he lost.

"'It was more about the adrenaline than the money ... I loved the action.'

"John says he would take out million-dollar markers at casinos all over the world to play blackjack -- and recalls often having $600k on the table at one time."

And yet the thing he is most concerned about now is fixing his golf game. It actually makes sense, because otherwise how would he finance his gambling hobby?

Famous for walking off the course or breaking clubs when frustrated the older, mellower, sober, Daly is more reflective. Daly even responded to accusations that he was drunk with an even-tempered rebuttal and shifted the conversation back to golf.

In a slump, Daly instead mentioned that he was interested in seeking outside help to fix his swing. He referred to his problems as the "yips" (via CNN):

"'When you've got the yips, it's no fun,' he said, referring to the 37 putts he needed over the 18 holes. He three-putted three times, and needed four at the fourth hole...

"Known for his 'grip it and rip it' approach, he hit three balls into the pond at the 16th, and then shanked a seven-iron 'dead right.'

"'It was just one of those days when nothing went right.'"
