Grammy-award winning jazz bassist Marcus Miller and members of his band were involved in an accident when a bus carrying the group turned over in Switzerland in Sunday killing the driver, according to Huffington Post.
Police say that the German-register private bus turned over while driving on a busy Swiss highway. The driver somehow managed to tip the bus over into a bend on the A2 highway in central Switzerland said police from the Swiss canton of Uri.
The bus was carrying 13 people according to the Huffington Post, two drivers and 11 members of the Marcus Miller Band, including Miller. Miller and his band are currently on tour and were just coming from Monte Carlo, Monaco and were heading to the Dutch town of Hengelo where they were due to perform on Monday.
Karl Egli, a spokesman for the Swiss Police, said the driver received fatal injuries. The 12 passengers that were injured were taken to the hospital but none sustained life-threatening injuries. Miller was discharged from the hospital on Sunday with band members Alan Han and Kris Bowers but other members of the band and crew members were being kept in the hospital overnight.
Authorities say that the cause of the accident is not immediately clear and according to the Huffington Post the police believe no other vehicles were involved.
Miller has worked with likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter and has won two Grammys, his first coming in 1991 for Best Rhythm & Blues Song ("Power of Love") along with Luther Vandross and Teddy Vann, and the second came in 2001 for Best Contemporary Jazz Album ("M2").
