A play about the late Amy Winehouse has been canceled due to the wishes of the singer's father, Mitch Winehouse. According to the Associated Press, Winehouse's father withheld permission for the production to use the late singer's music and photographs of her.
The play was set to have been performed by the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen and the musical setting for the play would have been centered around Winehouse's "Back to Black" and "Frank."
The Royal Danish Theatre's website said that the play called "Amy," would be based on published interviews and other press reports on the singer and songwriter, her concerts, speeches, letters and her songs. Winehouse's character was to be portrayed by 29-year-old actress Johanne Louise Schmidt.
The production that was set for Jan. 30 was written by a group of 11 Danish playwrights, according to the Associated Press.
Amy Winehouse died on July. 23, 2011 but before her death, the singer worked on a few projects, singer Tony Bennett had combined with her on a track called "Body and Soul," a record that landed on the Billboard charts at No.89.
Mitch Winehouse since his daughter's death has published a book entitled "Amy, My Daughter."
The most recent news involving Amy Winehouse surrounds a portrait of her by artist Marlene Dumas that was acquired by Britain's National Portrait Gallery on Monday. Officials said in a statement that the painting was made shortly after the singer's death in July 2011 according to the Los Angeles Times.
Dumas said that after Winehouse's death she felt inspired by existing photographs of Winehouse on the Internet, according to the National Portrait Gallery.
