Walt Disney Concert Hall Stages Baroque By Members Of The Los Angeles Philharmonic

Members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic will showcase the music of four of the most infulenical 18th century musicians at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in a night of Baroque on Dec. 11.

The L.A. Phil will play the work of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, Austrians Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Czech composer Jan Dimas Zelenka.

The program for the evening will start off with flutist Catherine Ransom Karoly, violinist Mitchell Newman, cellist Jonathan Karoly and Lucinda Carver on continuo with the four performing Bach's "A Musical Offering: Sonata sopra il Soggetto Reale."

Haydn's "String Quartet in C, Op. 76, No. 3 'Emperor'" will be performed by violinists Lyndon Johnston Taylor and Varty Manouelian along with violist Meredith Snow and cellist Tao Ni.

Violinists Stacy Wetzel and Chao-Hua Jin, violas Hui Liu and Minor L. Wetzek and cellist David Garrett will perform Mozart's "String Quintet No. 2in C Major, K. 515," for the night.

The final performance for the night will be Zelenka's "Concerto a 8 concertanti, ZWV 186." This piece requires eight artists. Ariana Ghez will play the oboe while Whitney Crockett will be on bassoon.

Nathan Cole is violin 1 and Johnny Lee is violin 2. Dana Hansen is the violist in the piece and Tao Ni the cellist. Lucinda Carver will be on continuo and Christopher Hanulik will play bass.

This performance is a part of the Walt Disney Concert Hall's Chamber Music Society 1 (CH1) and other performances will include Chamber Music with Lise de la Salle on Jan. 20 and Chamber Music: Shostakovich, Martinu, Mendelssohn on April 9.
