America Ferrera to Appear in Terrence McNally's 'Lips Together, Teeth Apart' Off-Broadway

The first New York revival of Terrence McNally's comedy Lips Together, Teeth Apart will feature Ugly Betty star America Ferrera as Sally, completing a cast that also includes Michael Chernus as Sam, Tracee Chimo as Chloe and Austin Lysy as John.

Though best known for her onscreen roles, Emmy winner Ferrera has earned critical plaudits for her stage work as well, having starred in Bethany and Dog Sees God Off-Broadway and appeared in Chicago in the West End.

A Broadway production of Lips Together planned for 2010 was cancelled when Megan Mullally pulled out, so this is the first time since the play's 1991-92 debut that New York audiences will get a chance to see McNally's play about two straight couples spending a weekend in Fire Island's gay community. "As their season in the sun unfolds, the two couples do their best to enjoy themselves despite their prejudices and insecurities."

Peter DuBois directs Second Stage's Off-Broadway production of the comedy, which follows the company's two notable summer productions: first, the New York premiere of Laura Eason's Sex with Strangers, directed by David Schwimmer and starring Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn and Tony-nominated Billy Magnussen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike); and then Tanya Saracho's Mala Hierba, directed by Jerry Ruiz and featuring Roberta Colindrez (the possibly Broadway-bound Fun Home at the Public Theatre).

Lips Together, Teeth Apart begins previews October 7 at the Tony Kiser Theatre, with opening night set for November 5.
