Star of the popular TV show "Degrassi," Jake Epstein is set to make his Broadway debut when he joins the cast of the "Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark" on Dec. 8 this according to Playbill.com.
The Canadian star has been casted as the alternate to Reeve Carney who plays as Peter Parker/Spiderman. The original alternate sources say Matthew James Jones played his final performance for the show and has now gone onto star in A.R.T's show "Pippin," according to Playbill.com.
Epstein is known for this role as Craig Manning on the Canadian teen drama but doesn't have any prior Broadway experience.
"Spider-Man may be an iconic American hero, but there is a lot of Canadian pride on our production team and we are delighted to welcome another Canuck into the fold," said "Spider-Man" lead producer Michael Cohl.
Cohl's has casted Carney as Peter Parker/Spiderman, Rebecca Faulkenberry as Mary Jane Watson, Robert Cuccioli as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin and Katrina Lenk as Arachne.
The production displays the musical and lyrical talents of Bono and The Edge and was directed by Philip Wm. McKinley and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa.
The play is inspired by Marvel Comics "Spiderman" and according to press notes, "follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek suddenly endowed with incredible powers soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains put both his physical strength and strength of character to the test."
