Spanish tenor Placido Domingo ends of the year with new honors as he was awarded by UNESCO and the Vienna State Opera for his many good works.
According to his website Domingo became the new goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Educational organization. The website went onto say he was being honored for his exceptional career and for "his efforts bring classical music to the entire world," UNESCO General Director Irina Bokova said in a ceremony at the body's headquarters in Paris.
The second tribute came by the way of the Vienna State Opera an award that the tenor picked up just prior the UNESCO title in late November .
The Spaniard has had a busy but successful year. In October he was on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," where her gave a stirring rendition of "Come What May," with Billboard artist Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins.
His work in America continued as he oversees the work at Los Angeles Opera. The Spanish maestro saw the successful staging of Giuseppe Verdi's "Two Foscari," "Don Giovanni" and "Madame Butterfly." Patrons to the LA Opera can look forward to acts like the "Flying Dutchman" and "Tosca," as the season rolls on.
Oct. 25 to Nov. 3 will see Spanish tenor Placido Domingo will a festival held in his honor entitled the "Placido Domingo Festival." The event will be held in the Spanish cities of Malaga and Seville places that Domingo himself has described as "culturally rich and historically important."
Domingo was joined by a host of guest for the festival that included the likes of Grammy award winning singer Ana Martinez, Italian Vittorio Grigolo and artistic director Joaquin Achucarro.
