Broadway Musical "'Evita' Starring Ricky Martin To Close Jan. 26

The Broadway musical "Evita" will close on Jan. 26, 2013, according to the shows producers amidst rumors that the production would continue and be re-casted.

According to Playbill.com, rroducers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders said the play will close early next year; recasting will not be a consideration.

The play, which stars a heavyweight cast that includes Latin pop sensation Ricky Martin, award-winning Argentine actress Elena Roger and Tony Award-winning Michael Cerveris, has had 26 previews and amassed 337 performances on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre since it debuted March 12.

"Our extensive search for a new cast presented the significant challenges of not only replacing a high-caliber trio of stars but also synchronizing the schedules of potential replacements with that of the production," Luftig said in a statement. "Despite going down the road with a variety of artists, the planets have simply not aligned for us to engage the right talent at the right time. Therefore, we have made the decision to end this incredible journey on a high note on Jan. 26 with our original stars intact.

"The style, grace and vision brought to this legendary musical by the cast, musicians and creative team exceeded our wildest expectations. We were thrilled by the diversity of the audiences that have filled the Marquis every evening and look forward to sharing this beautiful production with even larger audiences across the country beginning next fall," he said.

The show was directed by Tony and Oliver Award-winning director Michael Grandage and incorporates the moves of Tony Award winning choreographer Rob Ashford.

"Evita," is the tale of an Argentine woman who greatly influenced her nation in the realm of politics.
