Placido Domingo To Attend Latin American Concert In June

Placido Domingo is due to perform at special concert in June that explores the zarzuela and other Latin American music according to the Los Angeles Times.

The event will kick off at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and is being organized by Domingo's Los Angeles Opera and will see the company's young talent on display.

Joining the Spanish tenor in the festivities will be soprano Janai Brugger, a recent Operalia winner and an alumna of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program; tenor Joshua Guerrero, a first-year member of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program; and by soprano María Eugenia Antúnez. 

Moments directly after the concert, the 15th annual Plácido Domingo Award presentation will be presented to soprano Ailyn Pérez. The award is part of a gala celebration held each year by Hispanics for Los Angeles Opera, a support group for the company.   

While spending time as a boy in Mexico with his parents Domingo became well versed in zarzuela the Spanish form of operetta.

It has been a good year for the Spaniard Domingo became the new goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Educational organization as being honored by the Vienna State Opera.

Oct. 25 to Nov. 3 saw the Spanish tenor hold Placido Domingo  festival an event held in his honor.The event was held in the Spanish cities of Malaga and Seville places that Domingo himself has described as "culturally rich and historically important."

Some of the young talent that will be at the event in June went with him to his festival that included likes of Grammy award winning singer Ana Martinez, Italian Vittorio Grigolo and artistic director Joaquin Achucarro.
