Rumors are circulating that the prolific tech company Apple maybe in the works of the iPad Mini 2 that will boast a Retina display.

Digitimes is reporting that Apple will probably come out with a new iPad Mini that will have a sleek Retina display. The report, which cites unnamed sources, doesn't say the improved display will use Apple's Retina technology, but it says there's a good chance it might.

The report from Digitimes says that the new iPad Mini 2 will be lighter and the sources also say that  Apple will restructure the lighting of the next-generation 9.7-inch iPad from two LED light bars to one in order to decrease the device's overall weight.

The popularity of the iPad mini has left it in short supply with Apple looking to bring in another party in to aid in the output of the device. The company is now in the "final stages of appointing a third manufacturing partner that will help offset the difficulties currently besieging production of its iPad Mini devices," according to KnowYourMobile.

Apple's move to bring in a third party to help in manufacturing is a quick one. The company involved has not been named, but whoever it is will look to solve some of the problems the Apple is having with the iPad Mini.

The news of the new iPad Mini may spell trouble for the other tablets on Apple's roster as it stands the iPad Mini is said to be cannibalizing the sales of the iPad 4 and other iPads in the company's line up.
