'K-Pop's 8Eight to Disband

It has been reported that the popular K-Pop vocal group 8eight has decided to disband since the group members's contracts with Big Hit Entertainment have expired. The group, which has been active for seven years, consists of male vocalist Lee Hyun, male vocalist and rapper Baek Chan and female vocalist Joo Hee. The group 8Eight first appeared in 2007 as a part of the MBC program "Show Survival." In the same year, they released their first studio album "The First," and they have released three studio albums and a two mini-albums since. The group announced Dec. 21 that they have agreed on the decision to go their separate ways for their future music careers. Hee and Chan decided in September to begin looking for a new agency when their contracts expired, so they will not be renewing their contacts with Big Hit Entertainment. Hyun reportedly has plans to search for a new agency as well, but since he enlisted in mandatory military service, his contract ends at a later date than his bandmates. He will, however, continue as a soloist and part of the project duo group Homme, with 2AM’s Changmin. Big Hit Entertainment confirms that Hyun is preparing a new solo album to be released in the first half of next year.
  • 'K-Pop Sensation Changmin of 2AM Appointed University Professor

Changmin, singer for the popular South Korean boy band 2AM, has been appointed as the applied music education professor at Sohae University in Gunsan, North Jeolla, South Korea. According to a statement released by university officials, the school hired Changmin due to his experience as a vocal coach and his vocal talent. They also hope the singer will become an inspiration to their students. “We highly regard Lee Changmin’s experience as a vocal trainer before making his debut as an idol star. He has experience as both a vocal trainer and a singer. Many take years of trainee practice to even debut as a singer, but Changmin made his debut in just a few months. That was possible because of his talented vocal skills,” said university officials in the statement. Changmin’s experience as a singer began in 2008 when he made his successful debut through JYP Entertainment's ballad boy group 2AM. But Changmin was a successful voice coach before joining the band. In 2010, 2AM received Digital Album Awards at the 25th Golden Disk Awards with their song “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die.”
