He may look little like her animated character, Elsa, but Idina Menzel couldn't have loved Channing Tatum's 'Lip Sync Battle' rendition of her 'Frozen' hit, "Let It Go", any more. After the 'Magic Mike' actor appeared in full princess regalia to perform the 2013 hit, the 'Wicked' star let Channing know on Twitter that she was impressed. Word has it that Idina may not be so solid when it comes to own performance in 'If/Then,' now that the show is on tour, however. Menzel recently admitted that she was absolutely exhausted going into the run, but didn't want to leave the production until she had seen things through to the end.
"If/Then," the Broadway musical starring "Frozen" star Idina Menzel, will be closing March 22 after gradually deflating sales. Menzel, who has staked her claim on the Broadway stage in the original cast of "Rent" and "Wicked," is known to the non-theater world as the voice of Elsa in the Disney movie "Frozen." She also achieved mainstream success after the notorious name flub by John Travolta during last year's Oscars. But excitement about her return to Broadway slowly diminished, with the play peaking early in its run. "If/Then" follows Elizabeth, played by Menzel, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life, which splits into two parallel paths told simultaneously, based on a single inconsequential decision. Some believe the unfamiliar title and the challenging storyline are what led to the show's closing, especially with family-friendly, crowd-pleasing Broadway shows such a "The Lion King" and "Aladdin" on the landscape. Also, reviews for the show have been mixed, with some raves and other pans. The possibility of a recoup for the $10 million show is still unknown. The play reunited Menzel with her "Wicked" producer David Stone and "Rent" director Michael Greif, as well as Anthony Rapp, who co-starred with her in "Rent." Music for the show was by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.
Leah Flynn, a 7-year-old violinist from Sanford, Florida, is hoping to play her violin for peace in the torn town of Ferguson, Missouri. Flynn, who is only in second-grade, has been playing the violin since she was 5 and practices daily with her father. She has performed as a soloist at many different concerts and venues. After viewing the violence and protest happening in Ferguson shortly after the shooting and death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by Police Officer Darren Wilson, the talented child felt that she wanted to do something to help the suffering town. “She said to me, ‘Mom, what’s going on?’ And I explained to her, because I have to — I told her what’s going,” her mother Paula Flynn told WOFL. “She said, ‘But it's not right these people look so sad; maybe I could do something for them.”
'It doesn't need to be fast. It needs to be great,' said Thomas Schumacher, Disney Theatrical Group's president and producer, about a stage adaptation of 'Frozen.'
It's not just the fans who are hurting, it's the record companies too. Adele hasn't made any plans to record a new album for the rest of the year despite what a cryptic Twitter post might tell you.
