Extra, Extra. Stop the presses. Disney’s 'Newsies the Musical' national tour is going the way of the modern day print newspaper. That is right. The 'Newsies' might forever, but the road show isn't. The tour will end this fall. Check out the report below for all to the details.
Alan Menken has joined the creative team for the new Broadway-bound bio-musical "Happy Trails: The Extraordinary Life and Times of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans in Song & Story." The show focuses on the iconic couple and their influence in American pop-culture history. The creative team for the new show includes director Des McAnuff, who staged the hit "Jersey Boys" and won a Tony for his work on "Big River" and "The Who’s Tommy."
Classicalite reported that the Disney-Broadway sensation Newsies would be hitting a 25-city running tour in October 2014 — well now, after closing on Broadway after 1,005 shows, the production comes to the iconic Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Box office is still strong, though, as Andrew Rannells takes over the role.
Disney Theatricals quits while it's ahead and takes its hit musical on the road.
Harvey Fierstein, who wrote the books of both shows, will still be represented on Broadway by 'Kinky Boots.'
As 'The Lion King' continues its reign over Broadway, Disney Theatricals keeps up the pace with an ongoing series of musical adaptations of its hit movies. Next up, look for 'Jungle Book' and 'Frozen.'
