This year's National Endowment for the Arts induction ceremony was a series of firsts. For one, it wasn't held at its standard Jazz at Lincoln Center venue and it also didn't feature the honorees in performance.
The National Endowment for the Arts has announced its 2016 honorees. Considered the highest honor that a U.S. jazz musician can receive, a tribute concert will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. on April 4 at 8 p.m.
Saxophonist Pharoah Sanders has been added to the PDX Jazz Festival program, an annual gala held in Portland. Sanders will use his time to help pay tribute to Mr. John Coltrane at the festival, which will be held from Feb. 18-28 in the booming Oregon city.
