As if you didn't have enough planned for the summer, now comes a most anticipated Metropolitan Opera debut. Polish film director Mariusz Treliński is gearing up to premiere two rarely performed one-act productions, that of Iolanta and Bluebeard's Castle.
It might seem that dropping a lead or even a supporting role in a highly anticipated opera would get your name onto some kind of list. But, of course, there's only one soprano named Anna Yuryevna Netrebko.
Opening on Thursday and running until February 15, the Metropolitan Opera will be presenting the great Antonin Dvořák's 'Rusalka.' Even better, Renée Fleming will return to one of her signature roles--singing the emblematic "Song to the Moon" aria as only she can.
There will be cheers and champagne today, after confirmation that Chailly will, in fact, take over in Milan come 2015.
Soprano Renee Fleming will host Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD broadcast of Verdi's Rigoletto with Piotr Beczala, Željko Lucic, and Diana Damrau.
