Trombonist/Composer Steve Turre is not only creating 'Colors for the Masters' (Smoke Sessions Records)...but colors WITH the masters. Yeah, this session must have smoked alright! One of the greatest living trombone men, Steve Turre, has, as his core band, none other than bassist Ron Carter, pianist Kenny Barron and drummer Jimmy Cobb, masters all, on five originals and five standards.
In accordance to the official announcement from Guinness World Records, jazz music legend Ron Carte has gained a world record as "the most recorded jazz bassist in history". As of the 15th of September 2015, the number of individual recordings credited to him has reached a spectacular total of 2,221. The result says it all. He deserves this title beyond any doubt.
For the first time ever, 10 Ron Carter originals are fleshed out by an extended orchestra. 'My Personal Songbook' is, in a word, gorgeous, colored by shifting brass, woodwinds, percussion and, of course, his trend-setting, always evocative stand-up bass.
