Javier Munõz Takes Over Broadway Smash 'Hamilton' on Sundays in Title Role

Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway smash Hamilton has skyrocketed in ticket sales since the creator's visit to The Tonight Show -- and that has made Miranda quite tired. So on Sundays, Javier Munõz takes over the title role, and has been making a splash ever since.

Hamilton is the Broadway hit that his literally rewriting history. The telling of Alexander Hamilton as a figurehead in American politics is one that echoes through time -- and Lin-Manuel Miranda felt that his story could be told through hip-hop inspired music.

Making references to the Notorious B.I.G. and LL Cool J, Hamilton is brings history into the 21st century, and it's such a legitimate retelling that it's even become a part of New York City's local school curriculum.

That's right, the production is actually fixed into certain curriculums and even offers students an hugely reduced ticket price to attend.

With all this press early on, certainly Sunday's Hamilton (Munõz) must be feeling the pressure of the limelight. But according to The New York Times, that is hardly the case: "The cutting carnal edge of Mr. Muñoz's performance may slightly alter the production's chemistry, especially between Hamilton and Angelica Schuyler, his intellectual equal and sister-in-law, played with seductive assurance by the smashing Renée Elise Goldsberry. And it takes a little longer to warm to Mr. Muñoz's more aggressive and angular Hamilton, who wields his ambition like a sword. But this interpretation does not upset the balance of a revolutionary show about a revolutionary era that seems better every time I see it. In other words, should you be able to get seats for Hamilton only on a Sunday, you will not lose out"

Hamilton is a sure bet for the Tony Awards and has been well-received by critics.

Preview the show below and be sure to give Munõz a chance with a Sunday performance of Hamilton.
