"Popera" Star Katherine Jenkins Sings 'Carmen' at GCHQ Gala

To commemorate the valiant efforts of her country's top-secret intelligence agency, Welsh "popera" singer Katherine Jenkins performed for the staff at GCHQ. The recital included "Habanera" from Carmen as well as "World in Union" for the 450-strong team.

During the concert, Ms. Jenkins praised the country's agency and how they have been able to cooperate with civilians and the military to adequately thwart terrorism and cyber threats.

Remarking at the concert, the singer said:

"I'm delighted to have been asked to sing here to show my support for all those keeping our country safe, as I am aware how hard they work. I have also kindly been shown around the headquarters, which has been very interesting. I would like to wish them my ongoing thanks for all that they do for our country."

Ms. Jenkins is a Welsh-born singer and has become a household name in the world of popular opera. She has become known for her support of the armed forces, having performed in the past at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan to boost the morale of the British forces.

Her secretly unique audience also donated more than £2,200 towards two charities in light of her performance. The organizations include Care After Combat and The Wilderness Foundation, of which Ms. Jenkins is an ambassador for both.

Later this March, Ms. Jenkins will also be given the William R. Hopkins Bronze Medal by the St. David's Society of New York for her contributions to charity and the world of music.

The gala will mark the society's 181st gala held in honor of the patron saint of Wales.

A resounding congratulations to Ms. Jenkins on her latest accolade, it's an honor that is reserved for only the philanthropically minded in the music industry.

Since the performance couldn't be broadcasted, here's a brief clip of Ms. Jenkins speaking at the ceremony.
