It's hard to guess where Nashville activist Hayden Panettiere and her Ukrainian fiancé Wladimir Klitschko might stand on the whole Tennessee tax incentive situation in Music City. After it became apparent that the ABC series producers were seriously considering moving the show to Austin or any other town that seemed to care whether or not the network brought its money making entertainment machine to their state. After a tough round of negotiations it seem that Nashville has made what compromises it needed to keep its namesake filming within its borders, despite the growing backlash from some of the area's more Progressive leaning residents. It turns out that the legislature's decision to pass the series extending measures coincides coincidentally with their decision to close a homeless camp on the edge of town--causing some to cry foul play. The engaged former Heroes cheerleader and her boyfriend haven't so much cancelled their wedding as they have postponed it indefinitely, while his homeland works through some its growing pains.
If Tennessee's citizens want to keep Nashville filming in their state, than they are going to have to pay for the opportunity.
The state and local legislatures have made a deal to increase the tax incentives to the series in order to keep the show and the jobs and money that comes along with it in their town.
But according to the Watchdog, some Tennesseans seem to think that that money should be spent on the nanny state instead of the economy:
"The same day media reports of the new deal emerged, Nashville Scene, which caters to a more progressive audience, said Metro Nashville Police officers were about to shut down a homeless camp along the banks of the Cumberland River.
"Because of the coincidental timing, readers took to the Scene's Facebook page to erupt with self-righteous anger toward city officials and their supposed callousness toward the less fortunate."
Of course all those people got in their cars and trucks and went over and rounded up all the smelly malnourished broken veterans, schizophrenics and drug addicts in order to bring them to their houses for a nice hot meal and a bath.
Or is that supposed to be someone else's problem?
