'David Letterman's Last 'Late Show' Also Means Paul Shaffer's Disbanding the CBS Orchestra

When funny man Late Show host David Letterman called it quits, so, too, did his sidekick/bandleader Paul Shaffer disband the CBS Orchestra. While everyone else is paying attention to Letterman's retirement, it's easy to overlook another painful fact that Classicalites will soon have to get used to--the end for America's most pithy bandleader, Paul Shaffer.

    Rain Pryor, daughter of iconic comedian Richard Pryor, will premiere her one-woman autobiographical play Fried Chicken and Latkes at Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theater in Harlem. The show, which is the writer-actor-comedian's take on her mixed-race heritage and growing up the daughter of one of the world's most iconic funny men, will run Tuesday, June 2 through Sunday, June 28.
  • 'Opera Lafayette Premiering, Touring Grétry's 'L’Épreuve Villageoise' for 20th Anniversary

    The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) and Opera Lafayette will perform the modern world premiere of 'L'épreuve Villageoise' ('The Village Trial'), presented in celebration of Lafayette's 20th anniversary season season on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at FIAF's Florence Gould Hall. That Saturday, May 30, the production heads south to the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater for two shows at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
