There is something tremendous about being an artist. The idea of "art"--as a figurative umbrella--can be posited into music, onto canvas or sculpted 16 feet above one's head. And yet, it's that lattermost idea which will soon be postulated by eight-time Grammy winner Herb Alpert, who has a new collection of sculptures set to unveil in New York City's Dante Park at West 64th Street.

According to the New York Times, Jazz at Lincoln Center now has $20 million more in their Columbus Circle coffers--all thanks to financier, philanthropist and JALC chairman Robert J. Appel.

The (very) earthly pursuits of Rev. Calvin O. Butts, III aside, Wynton Marsalis--noted jazz trumpeter, jazz composer and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center--will also become director of jazz studies at the Juilliard School beginning July 1, 2014.
