  • 'Mica Levi Conducts Live Orchestra in Screening of Jonathan Glazer Film 'Under the Skin,' Starring Scarlett Johansson

    Mica Levi, the indie composer who hit it big with the score for the Jonathan Glazer film "Under the Skin" starring Scarlett Johansson, will team up with Wordless Music teams Spaceland Presents for the U.S. premiere of "Under the Skin Live": a full screening and live film score with orchestra. Levi, the score’s original composer, will conduct and lead the 25-piece orchestra, which comprises members of Los Angeles's pioneering ensemble, wild Up, and New York's Wordless Music Orchestra. Levi, 27, who recently won a European Film Award for best composer for the film, was working on her third album with her band, Michachu and the Shapes, when she got a call asking if she wanted to work with filmmaker Glazer on a new project. The project was a film he was directing called "Under the Skin."

  • 'Benh Zeitlin's 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Screened with Live Orchestra

    Director Behn Zeitlin’s acclaimed film "Beasts of the Southern Wild" will be screened with live accompaniment by the Wordless Music Orchestra and the Lost Bayou Ramblers under Ryan McAdams Jan. 23 and 24 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space in New York City. This event has only happened once before in New York, but the score to this four-time, Oscar-nominated movie has taken a life of its own. In July, excerpts were performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl, and the live score was performed to the complete film at the Barbican Arts Center in London. The Symphony Space performances will be the first live showings with the Grammy-nominated Lost Bayou Ramblers, who appear onscreen in the film. The soundtrack was composed by Zeitlin with Dan Romer and it will be performed to a music-less print of the film created especially for this project.
