Diana Damrau debuts in role of Violetta, MET’s La Traviata alongside Plácido Domingo, Saimir Pirgu

Diana Damrau, acclaimed German soprano stepped into the main role of Metropolitan Opera's La Traviata alongside Plácido Domingo, and Saimir Pirgu.

Saimir Pirgu plays role of Violetta's (Diana Damrau) lover Alfredo, while opera superstar Plácido Domingo stars in the role of of Alfredo's father.

This is the first time when Damrau sings Violetta, and Domingo moved from the tenor role of Alfredo to baritone role of Giorgio. Previously, Plácido Domingo sang role of Alfredo at the Metropolitan Opera numerous times since 1970.

Earlier this year, Damrau starred in MET in the role of Gilda, from the new production of Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto.

Next MET season, Damrau will make her company debut role as Amina in Bellini's La Sonnambula.
