Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Kick off 2016-17 Season with Kristin Chenoweth & Aretha Franklin
The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra has quite the selections planned for the 2016-17 season. The schedule includes performances with some of Broadway’s finest like Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown) and Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, Shrek the Musical). That is not all, music all-stars like Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Melissa Etheridge, Smokey Robinson, Ben Folds, Sara Evans and many more will be performing with the famed Orchestra.
There is no doubt about it. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra has one amazing season lined up for us.
Conductor John Morris Russell spoke about the upcoming season’s selections via a press release, stating:
“We are thrilled to be presenting phenomenal stars and a diverse cross section of the American musical tapestry during the upcoming Pops season at the Taft. The tradition of showcasing extraordinary popular music bathed in rich orchestral colors has made the Cincinnati Pops a worldwide sensation. It will be a season-long celebration of music's power to inspire and unite us all."
The Cincinnati Music Hall is undergoing renovations this year, but that won’t stop the Pops from kicking of the season right. The CPO will be performing at their “home away from away,” at Downtown Cincinnati’s historic Taft Theatre. The Pops will make their return to the Cincinnati Music Hall for the 2017-2018.
Russell went on to discussed the decision to stage their concerts at the Taft, citing his own experience with the venue:
“The Taft Theatre is a classic -- I cut my teeth with our orchestra there a couple decades ago with ‘Home for the Holidays’ and am excited to return for the entire season. The Taft has an intimacy and immediacy of sound that warmly embraces every seat in the house. With a little smaller stage than Music Hall, our ensemble will be both physically and sonically tighter, which really helps when we get our groove on!"
It all begins this summer with Kristin Chenoweth in June and the legendary Aretha Franklin in July.
