Linebacker Aldon Smith is reportedly losing over a million dollars as a result of his 9-game suspension due to multiple violations of the NFL's Substance Abuse and Personal Conduct policies. The San Francisco 49er has been charged with multiple DUI's, felony possessions and weapons charges, as well as creating a bomb scare at LAX. Add it all up and what does that mean? Smith will miss most of the 2014 season.
Upon the announcement of the suspension, Smith issued a statement (via ESPN):
"I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the entire 49ers organization and 49ers fans for not being able to contribute on the field for the next several weeks."
Although the loss will obviously be a blow, the 49ers were expecting it (via Washington Post):
"Our organization has known this decision would come and we have prepared for it as a team. Aldon has taken responsibility for his actions and has continued to show growth personally and professionally. We will continue to support him, but it is time to put this matter behind us and focus on the season ahead."
