NFL 2014: After Aldon Smith Suspended, 49ers End Ray McDonald May Be First Recipient of Roger Goodell's New Domestic Abuse Policy

The San Francisco 49ers' defense already took a substantial hit when linebacker Aldon Smith was suspended for much of the season. Now it seems they may lose another in defensive end Ray McDonald. McDonald was arrested after an alleged domestic dispute. If formal charges are filed, he may be the first recipient of Roger Goodell's new domestic abuse policy.

San Francisco's powerhouse offense is hopefully going to kick-start any day now. But their defense might be in trouble after accusations that DE Ray McDonald was involved in a domestic dispute (via CNN):

"The 49ers organization is aware of the recent reports regarding Ray McDonald and we take such matters seriously. As we continue to gather the facts, we will reserve further comment."

McDonald, for his part, seems to be claiming innocence, though he didn't outright deny the allegations (via Washington Post):

"I can't say too much right now. But the truth will come out. Everybody knows what kind of person I am. I'm a good-hearted person."

The world is also waiting to see how the NFL handles this case on the heels of their announcement that domestic violence will result in a six-game suspension.
