Retiring Derek Jeter Denies Story About Gift Baskets For One-Night Stand Hook-Ups, Says I Didn't Give Girls Autographed Baseballs After Sleeping with Them

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is retiring this year, win, lose or draw. So he had to set the record straight about a 2011 article alleging that he would send girls gift baskets full of signed memorabilia after sleeping with them. Jeter denies the story, saying it's ridiculous. Jeter says he absolutely did not give autographed baseballs to a string of one-night stands. He also managed to avoid addressing whether he actually did hook up with a ton of girls. He's such a gentleman.

In 2011, the New York Post ran an article alleging that, according to a friend of Jeter's, Derek got busted doing his Casanova thing when he accidentally gave the same girl a basket two different times (via New York Post):

"This summer, he ended up hooking up with a girl who he had hooked up with once before, but Jeter seemed to have forgotten about the first time and gave her the same identical parting gift, a gift basket with a signed Derek Jeter baseball. He basically gave her the same gift twice because he'd forgotten hooking up with her the first time!"

Jeter said the whole thing is ridiculous, while expertly avoiding a discussion about whether he's a man-whore (via NJ.com):

"'Like I'm giving them signed baseballs and pictures of myself on the way out! Who comes up with a story like that?' (Jeter) laughs, incredulous. 'It said the reason people found out was because I gave the same girl the same basket and I had forgotten I'd given her one-like there are so many people coming through I forgot!'"

You know, sending someone a basket is not the worst thing in the world. It's very polite. Maybe that should be a thing. And if you sleep with a girl twice, why wouldn't you give her a second basket? It's only right.
