Cleveland Orchestra reveals program for season 2013/2014

The Cleveland Orchestra revealed a program for upcoming season 2013/2014.

The season to be played at Severance Hall will bring Beethoven's Piano Concerto cycle which will be performed by four different guest conductors as well as four different artists.

The program also includes premiere of opera 'The Cunning Little Vixen' by Leos Janácek. The cast for , 'The Cunning Little Vixen' includes bass-baritone Alan Held, mezzo-sopranos Jennifer Johnson Cano and Julie Boulianne.

The program will also offer a celebration to commemorate 100th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's birth, a debut of the world-wide known pianist Yuja Wang, and a world premiere of 'Piccolo Concerto' by Gabriela Lena Frank.

In his twelfth season as Music Director, Franz Welser-Möst , will introduce a Fall Festival in October. The festival will feature symphonies by Beethoven and Shostakovich.

Mr. Welser-Möst  will conduct Beethoven's Mass in C major, feauturing soprano Luba Orgonášová, mezzo-soprano Kelly O'Connor, just to name a few. The program will also feature Beethoven's 'Grosse Fuge' and Messiaen's 'Trois petites liturgie de la Présence Divine.Messiaen wrote the text and composed the work for this piece during World War II and in his own words described his intent saying, "It proclaims theological truths using terms borrowed, in all humility, from the Holy Scriptures. The principal idea is that of the Divine Presence, with each section dedicated to a different kind of presence."

January 2014 will offer music by Brahms. Conductor Pierre Boulez returns to conduct two programs in coming season, namely Schoenberg's 'Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night)' and Accompaniment to a Cinematographic Scene,  Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2, Debussy's La Mer and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.

The coming season will feature guest conductors Jane Glover and Vladimir Jurowski making their debut at Cleveland Orchestra, as well as other debuting artists like pianist Imogen Cooper, mezzo-sopranos Jamie Barton and Julie Boulianne, sopranos Maureen McKay and Kate Royal, and tenor Herbert Lippert.

Several artists and conductors will make their returning appearance with Cleveland Orchestra.
