It was recently announced that NBC was not ordering a full season of its new DC Vertigo series Constantine. The show, starring Matt Ryan, has not been officially canceled, but the lack of a pick has caused some fans to worry. Now a new Save Constantine petition has been started, but is it necessary? Check the report below for all the details as well as a preview of tonight’s new episode.
NBC has decided to not give Constantine a full season order. However, this is hardly a death sentence for the new series. The Friday night time slot is also home to NBC’s Hannibal, which is set to return this spring. It is entirely possible that Constantine wasn’t picked up in order to save room for Hannibal to return to its normal time and night.
The same thing happened with Fox’s hit series Sleepy Hollow, last year, to save room for the second season of The Following.
However, fans are not taking any risk. An online i petition has been started to help save the show. The aptly titled Save Constantine fan petition calls for NBC to renewed the series, pleading:
“NBC has not ordered a full season for Constantine despite it's above average initial ratings and increasing quality and fanbase. The show is doing well for it's circumstances: it has one of the worst time slots imaginable, 10 pm on Friday nights.
“Matt Ryan is perfect as John Constantine, the show is getting better each week, and last episode saw a 38% bump in the ratings and an 87% viewer retention rating (after Grimm) with the introduction of The Spectre.”

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Constantine, titled “Rage of Caliban,” reads:
“John is forced to put aside his misgivings about exorcising a child when a malevolent spirit takes hold of a young boy. But first, the kid's parents need to be convinced that there is an evil presence controlling their son.”
