Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad as 'Romeo and Juliet' in new production on Broadway

English actor Orlando Bloom and Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad will star in a new Broadway production of William Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet.' The play will be directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux.

'Romeo and Juliet' will be Bloom's Broadway debut. Orlando Bloom had a breakthrough in his career in 2001 when he played the role of "Legolas" in "The Lord of the Rings."

Condola Rashad received her Tony nomination just last year for the performance in 'Stick Fly,' which was produced by Alicia Keys. Rashad currently plays in 'The Trip to Bountiful' where she portrays a young woman on bus.

The cast will also star a two-time Tony Award nominee Jayne Houdyshell, who will play the 'Nurse,' and Joe Morton, a Tony Award nominee, as 'Lord Capulet.'

The romantic story of Romeo and Juliet plans to open at Richard Rodgers Theatre starting September 19, 2013, after its previews from August 24. The play will offer only limited dates through November 24, 2013.

The play will be set to the contemporary setting however will keep the original Shakespeare's language, while members of the Montague and Capulet families will be of differing ethnicities.
