Larry David's Broadway Debut 'Fish in the Dark,' New Cast Members Announced
Six new additions to the cast of Fish in the Dark, the highly anticipated new Broadway comedy show written and starring Larry David, have been announced.
Joining David in the show, which begins previews on February 2 and opens at the Cort Theatre on March 5 are Rita Wilson (Jewtopia, Girls), Ben Shenkman (Royal Pains), Lewis J. Stadlen (The Producers, The Nance), Marylouise Burke (Sideways), Jenn Lyon (Phil Spector) and Molly Ranson (Learning How to Drown). Other cast members were announced earlier in the year and include Jane Houdyshell (Well), Rosie Perez (Fearless), Jonny Orsini (The Nance), Jake Cannavale (Basilica), and Jerry Adler (The Sopranos). The production will be produced by Tony award winner Anna D. Shapiro (August: Osage County).
Information has yet to be provided about the characters and in an interview in August, David described the play as a comedy about a death in the family and said he was playing “somebody very similar to Larry David, it might even be Larry David with a different name.”
The Scott Rudin-produced show replaces the Cort's current occupant, This Is Our Youth starring Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin and Tavi Gevinson. Youth is also produced by Rudin and directed by Shapiro, with much of its creative team transferring their talents to the new show as well. So it should be an easy transition from "youth" to "a death in the family," the crux of Fish in the Dark.
This is David’ first play and although he starred in a fictional production of The Producers on Curb Your Enthusiasm, his HBO show, Fish in the Dark will be his real-life Broadway debut.
