The Sony hack revealed that Thor and Pacific Rim actor Idris Elba was being considered to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond in a future 007 film. However, conservative talk show host, Rush Limbaugh has a problem with the Idris Elba casting rumor, he’s black. Limbaugh apparently thinks that the Mandala and Luthor actor shouldn't put a new face on the 50-year-old character.
Rush Limbaugh addressed the rumor that Idris Elba to play the part of James Bond, telling his listeners (via TV Guide):
"James Bond was invented, created by Ian Fleming, a former spy, MI6, and James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish, period. That is who James Bond is. But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out."
Limbaugh went on to further explain his position:
"We had 50 years of white Bonds because Bond is white. Bond was never black. Ian Fleming never created a black Brit to play James Bond. The character was always white. He was always Scottish. He always drank vodka shaken not stirred and all that."
Will Smith and Cuba Gooding Jr have both had their names public branded about for the role in the past.
Having a black actor play James Bond would finally confirm that James Bond is a code identity to go along with 007 number. That would explain how various different actors of various different ages have played the part in the past.
