2015 NFL Draft Predictions: Heisman Trophy Winners Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota Compete Tampa #1 Pick

The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and rumors are flying left and right concerning where college football's top names will end up. Marcus Mariota's consistency has proven time and time again that he is a worth first overall pick. However, the controversial Jameis Winston still holds the top spot on many mock drafts.

Before his time as a national star, Mariota was a two-sport athlete at St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. Impressively, Mariota threw for 2,597 yard with 165 completions of 225 passing attempts. He had 32 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions.

In turn, he led his school to a 11-1 record and the state title. Then, of course, his time with Oregon was historical and record-breaking. On the other hand, Jameis Winston has a similar story. He too was a two-sport athlete for his high school in Hueytown, Alabama.

Winston was considered the best overall QB recruit by ESPN and the best dual-threat quarterback recruit by Rivals.com. Like Mariota, his college career was legendary, and he, too, won the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

Now, the time has come for the duo to make the jump to the professional level, and according to Bleacher Report, Mariota's performance at the upcoming scouting combine is highly anticipated:

"Starting on February 17, more than 300 of the best prospects from around the country will meet for the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. Some draft decisions might already be in the works, but the combine decides where players will ultimately fall. Dual-threat ability and consistency are exactly what Marcus Mariota provides. However, a shoulder injury has caused some doubt to enter his draft process. In order to remove that concern, he'll need a good showing at the combine. He still hasn't announced if he'll throw at the showcase, but Mariota has already convinced one analyst he's worthy of the first overall pick"

However, the end result is still intensely debated. According to Tampa Bay, Jameis still has Mariota beat in many analysts' eyes:

"Bucs fans want to do with the No. 1 pick. It's unscientific, and only for fun. The results of the first 100 people who responded: 58 Winston, 40 Mariota, 2 trade. Also, [One analysts] had the Bucs picking Mariota in his first edition, but switched to the Seminole star in version 2.0."
