It sure seems from the incredibly widespread coverage that '1989' country maven turned popstar, Taylor Swift, is dating Scottish EDM DJ Calvin Harris, but the "Black Space" singer begs her fans to take a second look at her supposed tabloid relationships. According to the latest gossip news updates, Harry Style's ex-girlfriend got so tired of the media weighing in on every date that she ever went out on that she felt shamed into celibacy. While Swift laments not having a choice whether or not she remained single, she is very thankful that the time without a boyfriend allowed her to work on building new relationships -- like becoming friends with Kanye West.
Taylor Swift wants the media to know that they should feel totally responsible for her complete lack of a real love life over the past 24-months.
In an interview with Glamour, Taye Taye explained that the constant scrutiny made it so that it eventually felt wrong to do anything other than just hang out at home alone baking cookie for her cats:
"I'm only allowed to date if it's for a lasting, multiple-year relationship. Otherwise I'm a, quote, 'serial dater'. Or, quote, 'boy crazy'.
"The media. You take something very fragile, like trying to get to know someone, and it feels like walking out into the middle of a gladiator arena with someone you've just met.
"And...the public and the media are allowed to say thumbs up or thumbs down...So I just don't try it anymore."
While Taylor is still pretty furious at giving up some of the best years of her life to the court of public opinion, she doesn't consider that time a total loss.
During that in-depth chat with Glamour, Swift admitted that she was, at least, thankful that the dating hiatus afforded her all those extra hours to work on her many friendships:
"It's a good thing that I feel really independent and I feel that my friends are all I need."
Taylor is even happy to admit that she and Kanye West finally became friends over the break, but a source close to Swift reveals in the May 4, issue of Star Magazine, that she hasn't been as successful with Lena Dunham.
According to the informant, Taylor desperately wanted to be there for Lena like she is for Karlie Kloss or any of her other friends, but the creator of HBO's Girls is just so much more damaged than your average Victoria's Secret supermodel:
"Lena has really confided in Taylor about her insecurities...and Taylor was really sympathetic at first but finally got tired of Lena's constant pity party and told her that if she was so unhappy with her weight, she needed to get a trainer and do something to make a change."
Let's hope that Taylor can work things out with Lena since that's apparently going to be the only love she's ever truley allowed.
