Ranbir Kapoor may be lucky in love, but when it comes to box office performance, not so much. Take for instance his latest film Bombay Velvet. Anurag Kashyap's big-budget movie, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar was already behind the 8-Ball from the beginning. Luckily, Kapoor is rather fortunate when it comes to love.
Numerous production delays added to an already overinflated budget and drug down an already questionable film. A bad script and bad acting equated to poor reviews when it hit the theaters. Bombay Velvet bombed. Kapoor's acting, or lack thereof, was a lightning rod for criticism. Bollywoodlife.com was in the mood to pile on so it compiled a list of other ways the film failed.
Bombay Velvet's weekend collection was lower than the first day collections of Besharam. Ranbir Kapoor is no stranger to box office bombs. Before Bombay Velvet, his previous biggest failure was Besharam. As bad as that was at the box office opening day, Bombay Velvet was worse.
Even the super pretentious Roy made more money! The surreal film was the butt of many jokes, and still did more its first week than Bombay Velvet.
Now, this is really embarrassing! Even Sunny Leone's Ek Paheli Leela did better on day one. Even though the difference was minimal at best, Sunny Leone isn't setting the world on fire with well-made masterpieces. She is a former porn star. After all, acting isn't an important requirement. Bombay Velvet was bested by a movie that featured a porn actress.
The time has come yet again to pass on the Biggest Loser crown and Arjun Kapoor-starrer Tevar gets to do the honors and hand the mantle to Bombay Velvet! Even Tevar collected over Rs.21 crores in the weekend!
And at last, Deepika Padukone gets to rub this one in Ranbir's face! From the way it looks, Piku's opening weekend collection will most likely outstrip Bombay Velvet's lifetime collection!
