Recently, Seth MacFarlane received the 2015 Critics Choice Louis XIII Genius Award. The Genius Award was given to the Family Guy funny man on A&E, the same network which airs Duck Dynasty, to which MacFarlane noted as ironic. However, MacFarlane’s jokes about the network's flagship family and their views that “hurricanes are caused by gay marriage,” has been censored from the networks Youtube clip of the ceremonies. Meanwhile, Phil Robertson is still able to spout off freely about rapeing and killing athiest.
In his acceptance speech Seth MacFarlane charmingly joked:
“This very is exciting, standing here live on A&E with close to a billion people watching... something else. I don’t win a ton of awards so this is going to look nice next to my soccer participation trophy from 1988. The word genius gets thrown around a lot, which is good because otherwise i wouldn’t be getting this. But even taking that into account, put this in perspective here, being called a genius in Hollywood is kind of like being called thin at Disneyland. This is not a bar that is all that high.”
At that point the official A&E Youtube clip ends, cutting MacFarlane off be criticises Duck Dynasty. However, in his full speech, MacFarlane added the following:
“Let’s also not forget that I’m being declared a genius on the network that airs Duck Dynasty, this is a show whose cast members believe that hurricanes are caused by gay marriage. I wish I were joking.”
The Duck Dynasty clan have been widely criticized for their stances against homosexuality, and atheism. Recently, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson made a graphic and ignorant speech at a prayer breakfast, where he mistook atheist as people with zero morals.
