YG Entertainment, who manages the fan favorite all girl group 2NE1, have come out and emphatically denied the mega-popular all girl band is disbanding. Breakup rumors have dogged the band about their emanate splintering for several years now. It got so bad that in October 2014, YG Entertainment had to issue a public denial of that they aren't breaking up -- "2NE1's Disbandment is a Ridiculous Story."
The rumor originated from band member Minzy's changing her Instagram username from minzy21.mz to minzy.mz. Concrete proof? Not so much. As the rumors began to spread like wildfire, Minzy quickly changed her Instagram handle back so not to further fan the flames .
According to the website Koreaboo, Chic News claimed to have an exclusive that the band was planning to break up. The article claimed "YG Entertainment has been leaning toward the decision to start preparing for 2NE1's disbandment."
The site went on to claim that Minzy again changed her Instagram handle back to the "minzy.mz."
However, a search of the internet tells you that these rumors have really been around quite a long time, dare I say from the band's beginning, As of now, the band is very much still together and performing. Granted, where K-Pop is concerned, the shelf life for these acts is intentionally designed to be short and sweet. That is the nature of the beast. The new holds far more appeal and monetary potential than the old ever will.
In response to the breakup rumors, YG Entertainment has released a short, yet meaningful, official statement for the second time, "2NE1 disbandment? This rumor is not even worth dealing with."
