'Crimson Peak' Bombed: Tom Hiddleston and del Toro Losing Touch?

So far, Crimson Peak has bombed in the box office so far, and in a movie created by legendary Guillermo del Toro and featuring heartthrob Tom Hiddleston (Loki), are these two icons losing their touch?

Crimson Peak released on October 16th, and I personally expected it to do quite well. After all, Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite people on the production side of things in Hollywood, and about half the women I know would marry Tom Hiddleston in a heartbeat if he proposed. So what's causing this film to do so poorly? According to Box Office Mojo, the film has only made about $15 million domestically and another $13 million in the rest of the world. With a production cost of about $55 million, that's roughly only about half of the production cost, let alone keeping in mind the profits the producers will be wanting to make.

One has to wonder why.  It's October, so you'd expect a horror flick to do fairly well. And del Toro films tend to do better than just break even.

Are these two legends losing their touch?

Unlikely.

Guillermo del Toro has been responsible for a number of well-known films, including Pan's Labyrinth, Blade II, and Kung Fu Panda 2. He was also heavily involved with the The Hobbit, enough to be credited as a co-writer. His films are intriguing and well designed (for the most part).

Tom Hiddleston is as attractive as ever (so far as my friends inform me). He's charming and an excellent actor. Don't believe me? Try to not smile at the guy in this Youtube video. And besides that, I can imagine no one else as Loki from the Avengers.

All in all, the poor showing of Crimson Peak may just be one of those films that just doesn't resonate with horror movie buffs. I was speaking with some people I know personally, and despite being horror buffs, the movie just really didn't click with them.

So what did you think of Crimson Peak? Was it good? Did it bomb because of low-quality acting or due to a direction problem?
