On November 19th, One Direction -- minus MIA ex-band member Zayn Malik -- made a guest-star appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Not only did they perform songs from their new album, Made in the A.M., including, "Love you Goodbye," but they also played "No Control," from Four much to the adoration of One Directioners everywhere. In addition to the open-air concert, Kimmel presented Zayn's replacement and was thoroughly embarrassed by his father.
After shutting down Hollywood Boulevard for the second time in the show's history, One Direction's performance was met with the screams of thousands of tweener fans. While three songs from Made in the A.M. certainly melted the hearts of the screaming throng, it was "No Control," that really stole the show.
Upon announcing the band's indefinite hiatus coming up early next year, 1D fans begged for a music video of "No Control" and wanted the song be released as Four's final single. Unable to give into their admirers demands, One Direction made a compromise. They plan to include the song in all of their US tour sets.
Throughout the episode, Kimmel had his own bit of fun, announcing that a potato would be One Direction's newest member. As Daily Mail reports, Kimmel watched, "it soar to over 100,000 likes on Instagram in minutes." It was indeed, one hot potato.
While the potato gag was supposed to be Kimmel's top joke of the night, his father turned out to be the real laugh of the evening. Entertainment Weekly says, "Niall Horan revealed that Kimmel's father, James, actually followed him into the bathroom for an autograph." The revelation was made all the more priceless by Kimmel's face-palm reaction.
The Kimmel family so loves Horan, in fact, they actually buy a birthday cake in honor of the crooner's special day each year. Perhaps it wasn't just a bunch of over-excited girls screaming for 1D on Hollywood Boulevard. If we play back the footage, we might just find Jimmy's dad having a conniption right there among them.
