Spoiler Alert: The new trailer for Captain America 3; Civil War is out and it is jam packed full of Marvel goodness. One look at the cast list and you would think that the movie is the next Avengers film. However, the trailer makes it clear that Captain America A.K.A. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) takes the lead. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) also takes up a pretty sizeable amount of screen time. In the comics Steve Rogers is killed and Bucky takes up his mantle. Could the new film be heading in the same direction?
With so many superheros crammed into one film it is easy to think that we are getting another Avengers film instead of the third installment in the Captain Series. Recently, directors Joe and Anthony Russo spoke to Empire about how the search for Bucky will drive the story to make Cap’s lead clear, with Joe saying:
“We felt like it was the cleanest way to draw a line and highlight that this is Captain America 3, and not Avengers 2 and a half.
Anthony Russo also chimed in about the plot adding:
There is a story about how Cap gets to Bucky and that’s fairly involved.”
So what can we expect from the previously broke Bucky? Joe Russo went to give us a little insight into where Bucky is mentally:
“His memories are foggy. But he has them. He’s also different now. There’s a part of his personality that was under mind control, and he murdered a lot of people. So he’s got a very complicated history. Who is that person? How does that character move forward? He’s not Bucky Barnes anymore. He’s not the Winter Soldier anymore. He’s something in between.”
In the comics, Captain America is killed at the end of the Civil War and Bucky later takes his place. Could the Marvel Cinematic Universe be building up Bucky for him to take up the mantle?
