Dark Side ‘Star Wars’ Trailer, JJ Abrams Talks Luke Skywalker After Kylo Ren Rumors

Star Wars the Force Awakens is just one week away and fans can not wait to see Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. That is because we haven’t seen any of him yet, besides for a cloaked figure, robot hand and voice over that is. Luke Skywalker’s absence from trailers and promo art have lead many to believe that he might in fact be the film’s villain Kylo Ren, despite Adam Driver being cast as Ren. Recently, J.J. Abrams opened up about Luke’s absence. We also have an all new Dark Side trailer featuring Ren for fans to pore over in search of clues.

J.J. Abrams recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where he confirmed that Mark Hamill will have more than just a cameo in the new film:

“No one forgot about him!. We were hoping people would care, but there are a lot of things that are not on the poster, as busy as the poster is. Certainly Luke is a very important aspect of the story.”

Well J.J. wasn’t telling the full truth when he said that no one forgot about Luke, as proof by what he later said:

“It was the thing that struck me the hardest, which was the idea that doing a story that took place nearly 40 years after Jedi meant that there would be a generation for whom Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia would be as good as myth. They’d be as old and as mythic as the tale of King Arthur. They would be characters who they may have heard of, but maybe not. They’d be characters who they might believe existed, or just sounded like a fairy tale.”

It’s hard to see a giant moon-sized space station being destroying leading to multi planets celebrating being forgotten so easily in 40 years, or how all recorded history of the Jedi being erased in galaxy full of beings who have been known to live for hundreds of years, could ever happen, but yeah. Then again, the Jedi nearly forgotten in the 20 or so years it took Luke to find out about them. So... we guess we'll just have to trust you for now Abrams.
