'Doctor Who' Spoilers: Peter Capaldi Doesn't Want a Male Companion to Replace Clara

With the news that Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) will be leaving Doctor Who after this years Christmas episode, fans have begun to speculate who might be chosen to fill the void in the Doctor's life. Peter Capaldi has chimed in, stating that he doesn't want a bloke to take her place.

When Matt Smith left the show a few years ago, fan speculation went wild, and there was a small movement of fans that wanted to see the Doctor finally regenerate into a woman. This gender bending might have added a new dynamic to the show. Although another male was chose to be the successor to Smith, Peter Capaldi, this same debate has begun to flare up in the run up to Jenna Coleman's final episode.

A male companion is nothing new on Doctor Who, but Peter Capaldi has chimed in his two-cents and has stated that he does not want a male companion to replace Coleman. You would think that his reasons would be a slight bit sexually biased, but you couldn't be more wrong. Capaldi says that he doesn't want his companion to steal all of his action.

We all know that the Doctor is always running, but Capaldi's reasoning for wanting another female companion are justified. Capaldi told Radio Times, "With the best will in the world, I don't want a bloke, because I'm frightened that they'll give him all of the action and I'll be standing around spouting scientific gobbledygook...'Oh, Peter's not up to chasing those Zygons down the corridor, let the chap do it.' And that would be aweful. I want to chase the Zygons!"

There is no telling what way Moffat may sway in this decision, but in a recent statement that he made to Radio Times, he basically squashes the idea of a male for the part. He tells the Times, "I'm beginning to have an idea of the kind of person, specific ideas but not a specific actress. A new companion gives us the chance to launch the show again. It began in 1963 with the story of Ian and Barbara and then in 2005 with Rose Tyler. Arguably, it begins again with the story of Amy Pond. You can recruit new viewers when somebody else meets the Doctor. And I think we've got a really cool idea about how to do it."

Moffat went on to say that it will more-than-likely be a new person, rather than going with an alien. He also said that he has finalized the gender of the new companion, and that they are looking for a new dynamic. This is great news for the show. Jenna Coleman was a great costar, and it will be hard to find someone to fill her shoes.

In other news, the trailer for the Christmas special has gone online, and it brings back a familiar face. Don't look at me to tell you anything. Watch the trailer!
