Why is Ed Sheeran Taking a Break From all Social Media Until the Fall?

British singer, Ed Sheeran is making a clean break from all social media for a brief amount of time. He claims that he will even be doing away with his phone during his hiatus from the Internet hubbub. The exact duration of this hiatus is undetermined, but he should be back in online feeds sometime next Fall.

With 16 million Twitter followers and over 5.5 million Instagram followers, social media may not be the same for a lot of people, without the young self-made star around to keep them entertained.

The Guardian reports, Sheeran posted the following on his Instagram account at the close of the world tour for his second album, X: "I'm taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while. I've had such an amazing ride over the last five years, but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes, so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed."

One of the main reasons for the break may have something do with the surgery he has scheduled in January. According to International Business Times, the surgery is to graft his damaged ear drum and quotes Sheeran's brief explanation as to what happened to make the operation necessary, "I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed [my eardrum]."

Following the surgery, he will be traveling to see what all he has missed while staring at his phone. Who can really blame him? As busy as he has been of late with the X tour, a little bit of R & R certainly couldn't hurt.

In addition to surgery and travelling, the young redhead will also be working on his third album and according to USA Today's report, Sheeran seems to believe it will be his best album so far.
