The Washington Redskins are a much improved team this season and rumors are beginning to fly. One writer thinks they could look to acquire Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints. Could the Redskins look to acquire Brees?
Dylan Mitchell of Rant Sports suggested that Brees could be a potential trade target for the Redskins. It isn't necessarily a "rumor" but it is enough of a question to make it a rumor. Brees isn't terribly happy in New Orleans and it is obvious that the Saints will not be getting back into Super Bowl contention for a few years.
Brees could very well be available via trade this coming offseason, especially if head coach Sean Payton leaves town.
During the 2015 NFL season thus far with the Saints, Brees has put up very solid all-around numbers. He has completed 67.6 percent of his passes to go along with 4,135 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Brees has been able to put those numbers up despite the Saints trading both Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills during the offseason before the season began.
At 36 years old, the Redskins would have to make a decision that they want to go all-in to contend. They may not be in a position to compete for a Super Bowl, but if Brees can give them two or three more years they could very well build around him and try to contend in that short window.
New Orleans isn't going to move Brees just to make a trade. Washington would have to offer them something of value, which could make the deal hard to come by.
Looking ahead at the upcoming offseason, it is not too crazy to think that the Redskins could place a call to the Saints. Kirk Cousins is a good quarterback, but he isn't the type of player that can power a team to the Super Bowl. Brees still has that kind of ability and would make Washington an even more dangerous team.
Obviously it isn't very likely that Brees will be traded to Washington, but it is something to keep an eye on.
