The Los Angeles Lakers have not had what anyone would refer to as a good start to their NBA season. With a 5-27 record, they'll need to make magic on the court over the next few weeks, starting tonight, if they want to even have a remote chance at decent season. Kobe Bryant even indicated he doesn't believe this year's Lakers are that good. In response to a comment regarding his enjoyment of playing the role of "villain" at away games, and the fact he's been getting a lot of cheering since this is his final season, Bryant said "if [the 5-27 Lakers were] a championship-caliber team, honestly, I would probably come out and say something extremely controversial just to piss everybody off so everybody hates me for one more year. . . . But I don't need to do that." Kobe Bryant is still the main player to watch on the Lakers' offense, so perhaps if he has a good game, they'll stand a chance tonight.
The Boston Celtics should certainly be confident tonight. With an 18-13 record, and 9-7 at home, they'll be facing a pretty weak Lakers team they are likely to beat. Interestingly enough, the Celtics had considered drafting Kobe Bryant back in 1996, but passed on him. No doubt they've had regrets over the years for that choice. Still, Isaiah Thomas has been playing quite well this season, arguably better than Kobe Bryant. Thomas will be a key player tonight in ensuring the Celtics win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Based on the players and the season's history so far, it appears quite strongly that the Celtics will beat the Lakers.
